“Iceland Movie Pavilion” Contest
Grjótagjá, Iceland
Ideas competition organized by Bee Breeders for a cinema and gallery in the Grjótagjá area of Iceland.
Our proposal: “Glass Wedge”
The proposal is a simple solution that blends naturally into the landscape.
The design calls for a building that can blend into its surroundings through the simple and effective use of materials that are both quick to construct and energy-efficient.
The layout is defined by positioning the building facing south, with a view across a grassy slope toward the Grjótagjá caves and Hverfjall volcano. The façade consists of a repeating wooden frame, tempered glass, and walls made of volcanic concrete; a material used throughout the building.
The theater serves as the focal point, with reception areas, a bar, a café, and a gallery situated around it.
