Howard House

A competition to expand the Howard family home in upstate Pennsylvania, honoring a rich stonemasonry tradition through an avant-garde architectural approach. The site features a spectacular 12-meter-high waterfall, carved by ancient glacial waters and historic streams.

A new project that integrates into the landscape while meeting modern construction standards.

We propose a concept in which architecture is reinvented through masonry and local stone—an architecture that emerges as a dialogue between the landscape, the stone, the river, and the waterfall. A terraced system avoids drastic landscape alteration, preserving all existing trees and respecting historical flood boundaries.

We seek beautiful transitions—moments of surprise, encounter, and contemplation—where the river itself becomes a façade. Peace is the defining element of the experience as guests connect with nature.

Every space offers views of the river and the waterfall. Our proposal not only responds to the Howard family legacy but amplifies it, honoring the spirit of the original summer home through its materiality.

The project does not seek to impose itself upon the landscape; instead, it honors nature and family values, designed to age gracefully.
