Ideas competition for the “New Public Library for the State of Jalisco,” organized by the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) and the state government.

The project is part of a master plan developed by Argentine architect César Pelli that includes housing, retail, offices, and educational buildings.

The competition guidelines called for a solution that combines library and administrative office spaces within a single building.

Our proposal calls for elevating the library via a grand staircase that faces the plaza, thereby expanding the urban space.

The building’s form results from stacking the different parts of the project and shifting the floors to create a dramatic cantilever.

A series of internal lobbies were created to spatially connect the components and form living spaces.
